22 adult education organisations and 15 international journals were partnering, with 150 participants from 26 countries.
10 Working Groups were established and worked during the conference on setting up new partnerships and cross-cutting projects. Many of them have continued the work, held webinars, and published afterwards.
WG 10: Cooperation and stakeholder engagement for ALE
The conference concluded with a Call for ”Learning Unlimited: A New Renaissance for Lifelong Learning”.
An MoU has been signed between HOF and unifi, that will lead to activities, that we will come back to later.
As a preparation for the Florence Conference, a special issue Vol 24, no 2 (2024) of the Form@are open acces journal ”Revitalising Adult Continuing Education for Positive Social Changes and Personal Fullfillment” with guest-editors Èva Farkas, Que Anh Dang, Francesca Torlone, was published. Paolo Federighi is the editor-in-chief of Form@are.
As a follow-up of the WG on Prison Education, a special issue Vol 25, no 3 (2025) of Form@are ”The educational dimension of penal execution inside and outside prison walls: Treatment approaches between annihilation and rehabilitation of incarcerated individuals” with guest-editors Francesca Torlone, Antra Carlsen, Pierangelo Barone, Joseph Giormaina, Timothy Ireland, has been published.
As a follow-up of the WG on Learning Cities, an initiative has been taken from the City of Cork to create a NorthAmerican-Europe Network of Learning Cities.
As another follow-up Paolo Federighi and Arne Carlsen have made a review of the Italian UNESCO Learning Cities ”Governance in Learning Cities in Italy. Evaluation Report”, that has been presented to the City Councils in a seminar in Lucca in April 2026, and will be presented by Arne Carlsen in the Pascal conference “Flourishing Learning City Ecosystems for Creative Circular Economies” in Pécs in Hungary in September 2026.
This WG has further resulted in a special issue of Form@are VOL 26, No 1 (2026): ”Evaluating the experience and impact of Learning Cities. From reporting to transformative capacity: criteria, evidence, comparability”, with guest-editors Arne Carlsen, Raul Valdes-Cotera, Piergiuseppe Ellerani, that has just been published,
As one of the results of the participation in the conference of five European HOFE members, that were active in the European Presidential Conferences in the 1990es to prepare for an EU-programme on lifelong learning, Ekkehard Nuissl, Sturla Bjerkaker, Alan Tuckett, Heribert Hinzen, and Paolo Federighi, Arne Carlsen has made an interview series with them, and the interviews are now being published on the HOFE website, with excerpts in the HOF Newsletter.
